STEEL TOTEMS & SOUND VESSELS
Totems is a series of freestanding welded steel sculptures built from reclaimed steel cylinders -- industrial containers once considered spent and discarded. Transformed through fabrication, each piece becomes something else entirely: a vessel for narrative, memory, and meaning.
The series operates as a unified statement. A recurring motif runs through each work, connecting them while allowing each sculpture its own presence. Together they explore feminist perspectives, gender roles, historical utility, and the passage of objects -- and ideas -- into obsolescence. Wager's own history is woven through the work, lending each piece a personal weight that sits alongside its broader cultural inquiry.
Steel chosen for what it has already been. Remade into what it can still say.
